Alain Mata Mamengi, who signs his work Al'Mata, was born in Kinshasa, Congo in 1970. He studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kinshasa and animation at the International Institute of Arts. He became artistic director of the daily L'Observateur and its supplement Sélection Info. His work has also appeared in other publications, such as 'Les Stars de la BD' and 'Mac BD'. He is president of the artists association Bulles et Plumes in Kinshasa. He has worked together with Cristophe N'galle Edimo on the comics 'Zambo' and 'Le Billet de Bakuvangu'.
