Aspyrus
Appupen (real name George Mathen), is a Bangalore-based comic creator, visual artist and musician. His work is known for its skewed world views and sarcastic bite. Appupen's first graphic novel, 'Moonward', was published by Blaft in 2009, and was selected for the 2011 Angoulême festival. It was the first of his comics set in the mythical fantasy world of Halahala, and was followed by the silent graphic novel 'Legends of Halahala' (HarperCollins, 2013) and the extensive 'Aspyrus' (HarperCollins, 2014).
Art by Appupen has additionally appeared in art galleries, restaurants, pubs and cafes across India. Since 2011, he also has a regular feature in Rolling Stone India called 'Empyr of Rock'.
