Robert Armstrong is an American underground comix artist. He contributed to several comic book anthologies such as The New American Splendor Anthology, Weirdo, Arcade Comics, Mondo Snarfo, Yellow Dog Comics and El Perfecto. His most famous creation is 'Mickey Rat', of which four comix appeared in 1972 (two issues), 1980 and 1982. Besides a comic artist and illustrator, Armstrong is a musician. He has composed the soundtracks to several films and is a singer, guitarist and musical saw player in Robert Crumb's band, The Cheap Suit Serenaders. Armstrong and Crumb bonded over their shared love for old Hawaiian and polka records, a genre other music collectors frowned upon. Armstrong wrote a personal homage to Robert Crumb in Monte Beauchamp's book 'The Life and Times of R. Crumb. Comments From Contemporaries (St. Martin's Griffin, New York, 1998).
