Rainer Benz studied to become an above ground construction draftsman. He has worked for several companies, and since 1991, he has published in a variety of periodicals. He has made among others the strip 'Max und Moni', scripted by René Lehner, for Schweizer Illustrierten. Since 1995, he is a member of Cartoonpool.
