Lilla Fridolf, by Torsten Bjarre

Torsten Bjarre was a Swedish comic artist and best-known for 'Flygsoldat 113 Bom' and his comics with the popular 'Lilla Fridolf' character. He got his technical degree in Karlskrona and then spent three years studying to become a painter. He started his artistic profession after completing his studies in sculpting from the College of Arts in Stockholm. He specialized in watercolours and did caricatures at an amusement park until he headed to the Ljungbyhed air force base.

There, he created a first rendition of his comic character 'Flygsoldat 113 Bom', originally intended for an anniversary publication of Flygpost. It then became a regular feature in Teknikens Värld and from 1956 in 91:an. Bjarre worked on his comic until 1971, and he was succeeded by writers and artists like Gunnar Persson, Istvan Fellner, Lasse Persson, Bertil Wilhelmsson, Anders Persson, Daniel Boström and Olof Siverbo.

In 1952 he additionally created his comic character 'Oscar' for Bildjournalen. That same magazine assigned him to develop a series of comic strips based on Rune Moberg's 'Lilla Fridolf' radio play in 1956. Bjarre continued to work on this comic for Semic in 1960 and worked on it until 1979. Torsten Bjarre has also been active in animation.
