Comic strip for Tante Leny by Bill Bodewes
Botermes bij de soldaten

Willem Egbert (Bill) Bodéwes studied at the Art Academy in Enschede, where he developed an interest in pop art. He has published comics in several magazines during the 1960s and 1970s. Bodéwes was especially renowned for his taboo-breaking cartoons, that displayed a keen sense of social and political criticism. His first cartoons appeared in the magazines Hitweek (1968) and Aloha (1969-1974). Since then, he has published in other Dutch magazines, including Candy, Chick, Bumper, De Hoek van de Straat, Vrije Geluiden, De Nieuwe Linie and De Volkskrant.

He was also present in the independent comic magazines Tante Leny Presenteert and Modern Papier with comic stories such as 'Botermes bij de Soldaten', 'Pietje Piel Draagt de Oranjekiel' and 'De Moeilijkheden van Kommissaris Kut'. His cartoons have also been featured in publications from France and Germany.
