Emmanuel Boem studied Fine Arts in Angoulême between 1982 and 1985. He met the writer Rodolphe in 1986, with whom he produced the 'Joyeux' series and numerous short stories for Pilote. They began the 'Le Blaireau' series at Dargaud.
