Tjerk Bottema is a Frisian painter and graphic artist, best known for his political drawings for De Notenkraker. He studied to become a teacher in Maastricht, together with his brother Tjeerd Bottema. Between 1901 and 1904 he attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Amsterdam. He has lived and worked in several Dutch towns, but also in Antwerp, London, Berlin and Italy. He has lived in Paris since 1920.

Bottema was a watercolor and landscape painter, known for his city views and portraits. He made lithographies for cinemas in Berlin and was a regular contributor to De Notenkraker. He died in 1940 in a shipping disaster when fleeding from Bordeaux during the Nazi invasion of The Netherlands, Belgium and France. 

Tjerk Bottema was a strong influence on Berend Vonk.
