Gerhard Brinkmann, also known under the signature G. Bri, was a German graphic artist and caricaturist. During his schooldays in Leipzig, he already worked for several weekly magazines. He attended the Academy of Graphic Arts and then went to work for magazines like Berliner Illustrierte and Die Woche in Berlin. In the years before World War II, he worked for satirical magazines like Kladderadatsch and Simplicissimus. Injured during the War, he lost sight in one eye. In 1953, he headed for Canada and eventually New York. Upon his return in the BRD in 1965, he settled in Bernau am Chiemsee, where he gained fame with his cartoons for Stern, Playboy and Gong from the 1960s through the 1980s. He created cartoon characters and series like 'Herbert', 'Alfred, der Strassenfeger', 'Die Firma E. Papko' and 'Die Familie Saubermann'.
