Awkward
Svetlana Chmakova is a Russian-Canadian comic artist, who works in the manga style. She was born in the Soviet Union, but emigrated to Canada, where she attended the Sheridan College Classical Animation until 2002. She began to publish her manga on the internet, creating the webcomics 'Chasing Rainbows' and 'Night Silver'. Her full-length manga 'Dramacon' was released in three volumes by Tokyopop in North America between 2005 and 2007. It deals with an aspiring teenage comic writer, and her experiences at anime conventions.
Her next mangas, the 'Nightschool' series and 'Awkward', were published by Yen Press from 2009. She has also made manga adaptations of James Patterson's 'Witch and Wizard' novels.
