Chumy Chúmez, pseudonym of José María González Castrillo, was born in Euzkadi, Spain in 1927. He started his career in La Codorniz in 1947 and became one of Spain's best known and most influential illustrators and humorists. From 1967, he worked for newspaper Madrid, where he was a pioneer of radical humor. He was founder of magazine Hermano Lobo, for which he created the series 'El archivo de Don Claudio'. His work has appeared in numerous publications. Chumy Chúmez was also a painter and filmmaker.
