La Légende de Guignol
Emmanuel Cocard was active as a humorist and painter in Lyon between 1921 and 1941. He started his collaboration with Édition S.E.F.I. in 1942, when he made the illustrations for a series of coloring books. In the following years, he illustrated several books for this publisher from Villeurbanne, such as 'Gulliver au pays des Géants', 'La Légende de Guignol', 'La Scarabée d'or', 'Les Bonbons magiques' and several other books for children. He also illustrated La Fontaine's Fables for Éditions Giraud Ivoire in 1943.
S.E.F.I. also published comics by Cocard, including 'Tobby l'Élépant chez les Mangetoucrus' (1945), 'L'Envol de Magnéto' (1946) and 'Pat et Pouf ou la Poupée Volée' (1946). He was subsequently making illustrations for Éditions du Siècle in Lyon and the magazine OH! by Éditions du Puits Pelu. Among his other comic characters are 'Poil de Moustique le petit indien' and 'Barbagnac et Patatos'.
