Hara Siri, by Gregorio C. Coching
'Hara Siri'.

Gregorio Cabral Coching was the father of comic artist Francisco V. Coching, and a famous pre-war novelist, engraver, sculptor and councilman. He wrote and illustrated comic novels for Liwayway and ACE Publications, such as 'Hara Siri' (1950). He was born in 1890 in Buting, Pasig (several sources have incorrectly cited his birth year as '1890'). In 1904, he studied at the Juventud School in Tondo, Manila, and studied fine arts at the Filipino University. With his novel 'Sanggumay' (1925), Coching won a contest by the magazine Liwayway. From 1927 on, he would be a regular contributor to this publication, writing short stories and longer narratives. 'Tenyenteng Rosario' and 'Illaw ng Langit were adapted into films. Coching also wrote for the magazines Silahis and ACE Publications. He died in 1961.

In 2022, the Buting Elementary School was renamed Gregorio C. Coching Building.
