Brian Crane was born in Idaho and grew up outside of San Francisco, California. He studied art at Brigham Young University, where he graduated in 1973. Crane was working for an advertising agency in Reno, Nevada, when he created 'Pickles', a daily comic strip about an elderly couple living out their golden years, without losing their sense of humor. The strip made its debut in 1990 and has consistently ranked very high in comics reader surveys. In 2002, 'Pickles' was named 'Best Comic Strip' by the National Cartoonists Society.
Brian Crane's 'Pickles' has been praised by veteran cartoonists George Booth and Don Orehek.
