John Leslie Curtis was a successful theatrical poster artist who also drew for the Australian comic books in the 1940s. He was the artist of many fillers and back-up features in the detective, western, historical and science fiction genres. He also provided artwork for covers. He mainly worked for Press Features Service and Horwitz Publications, but also for Frew Publications. He was the artist of the 'Larry 'I Hate Crime' Kent' series and the Edgar Wallace comics, as well as an Australian version of 'Billy the Kid'. In the early 1950s, he drew covers and stories for Silver Jacket, including 'The Pony Express' and 'Eureka Stockade'. When Silver Jacket finished in 1956, Curtis turned to illustration, working for Peter Lane School Productions and magazines like Parade. John L. Curtis died in 2000.
