Marco de Gastyne was born in 1889 in Paris. His cartoon and illustration work appeared during World War I in the French magazine, La Baïonette. De Gastyne is mostly known for being the director of the movie 'La Merveilleuse Vie de Jeanne d'Arc' (1929), but he was also a decorator and painter in addition to being a successful filmmaker and illustrator. He is the son of the writer Jules Benoist, who signed his work with Jules de Gastyne.
