comic by Ion Deak

Janos (Ion) Deak graduated from the Institute of Fine Arts in Bucharest. He added the name of his birthtown Cluj to his name to distinguish himself from his colleague Janos Deak from Bistrita. He was married to the daughter of painter Ion Tucelescu, and worked as an illustrator for the press, books and advertisements in Bucharest. He contributed comic stories to magazines like Cravata Roşie and Cutezătorii ('Miu al Florilor') in second half of the 1960s. He was also the creator of 'Stefan Cel Mare' for Casa Scînteii. He suffered from kidney problems and passed away when he was only in his mid-30's. His final comic book, 'Posada', was published in that same year by Éditions Ion Creangă (script by Radu Theodoru).
