Shamisa Debroey studied at the comics section of the Sint-Lukas School of Arts in Brussels. She graduated with her first graphic novel, the semi-autobiographical 'Verdwaald' (Oog & Blik, 2013), about a girl that has to grow up without her parents. The book was widely praised, and won prizes like the NRC Beeldverhalenprijs and the Focus Knack Strip Award. Debroey lives in Mechelen, where she works as a freelance illustrator. Among her clients are Apple, VRT, Stad Leuven, Stad Mechelen, CC De Westrand, CC Mechelen, De Standaard and Erfgoed.
