Yann Dégruel studied Art Deco in Strasbourg from 1991 to 1996. Afterwards, he joined the animation studios Folle Image. There, he developed 'Genz Gys Khan' as an animation project. The series was eventually turned into a 2000 comic series, published by Delcourt. In 2004, he created the children's comic 'Sans Famille' at the same publishing house.
