Döes was a French artist, active in the late 19th, early 20th Century. His work appeared in magazines like Le Papillon, La Revue Illustrée, Le Chat Noir and La Semaine de Suzette. He also drew stories for the prints of the Imagerie Quantin in Paris. The Imagerie Quantin produced sequential stories, just like the Images d'Épinal. The stories were often fairy tales, or for educational purposes.
