Born in Yantai City, Shandong Province, Duan Jifu worked in a bank as an accountant and as a public relations person before he was sent to study art at Tianjin Art Academy. His first cartoon was published in 1956 and Duan Jifu has continued to create numerous cartoons, comics and illustrations since then. December 18, 1984, Duan's comic strip 'Lao Ma Zheng Zhuan' appeared for the first time in Jinwan Bao. It has been published every week without interruption since it began. More than 600 stories have been created and in 1995, Lao Ma's Adventures were chosen to be adapted into a series of animated films.
