Patchoun et Pitchounette, by H. Duc (1943)
'Patchon et Pitchounette' (Nine #8, 27 January 1944). Their father is mad when it turns out they used his hat to keep the archery target up.

H. Duc was a (presumably Belgian) mid-20th century artist with the girls' magazine Nine during World War II, drawing the comic feature 'Patchoun et Pitchounette' (1943-1944).

Nine
Nothing is known about the creator behind the credit byline "H. Duc". Together with Madeleine Gérard and Charles Gilbert, he or she was one of the comic artists in Nine, a small-format weekly magazine, published by the Société des Éditions Féminines and edited by Lizy Nevraumont, AKA "Tante Lizy". Since Charles Gilbert ran a graphic arts atelier in Liège (known as "Imagil" or "At-Gil"), which was responsible for most of the artwork in the magazine, it is possible that H. Duc was also affiliated with this studio.

Throughout the magazine's 32-issue run (9 December 1943 through 8 September 1944), H. Duc drew the comic feature 'Patchoun et Pitchounete'. Written by Yvonne De Backer, this family comic starred two prankster children, and shared the page with the subsequent Charles Gilbert comics 'Les Aventures de Tip et Top' and 'Les Fransques de Plume et Pataques'.

Since the magazine was published under control of the pro-Nazi Rex party, the title came to an end after the Liberation of Belgium in August 1944. While both Madeleine Gérard and Charles Gilbert continued their careers in new magazines like Lutin, Stop and Grand Coeur, no further whereabouts of H. Duc are known.

'Patchon et Pitchounette' (Nine #27, 18 July 1944). Patchon shows Pitchounette how to dive. After falling into a river that isn't deep enough, she comments: "I prefer not to dive."
