Pompiliu Dumitrescu was a prolific Romanian artist, who created a great many comics, and also illustrated many children's books and movie posters. Born in Bucharest, he graduated from the Nicolae Grigorescu Institute of Plastic Arts in 1964, and was a member of the Romanian Union of Plastic Artists since 1967. Dumitrescu one of the main representatives of Romanian comics from the 1960s throughout the 1990s. He has worked on realistic but also caricatural stories (like 'Enigmele lui Dorel') and his personal style has been an inspiration for many of his colleagues.

He has drawn several comic stories for children's magazine Cutezătorii in cooperation with various scriptwriters from 1967 onwards, including 'Secretul Amfore' with Ion Hobana, 'Lacul cu elefanţi' with Val Tebeica, 'Planeta răpită' ('The Stolen Planet') with Horia Arama, 'Ticuţă' and 'Descoperirea inginerului' with Petre Ghelmez. In the 1980s and 1990s he was also present in other magazines, such as Şoimii Patriei, Almanahul Copiilor, Dimineaţa Copiilor and Pif Surprize with original stories like 'Mariuca' and 'Delfi'', as well as H.G. Wells and Astrid Lindgren adaptations. He passed away in Bucharest in 1998.
