Jan Duursema is best known as an artist of 'Star Wars' comics. She got her art education at the Kubert School and published her first work in Heavy Metal in 1979. She then woked on a couple of DC titles, starting with a run on 'Sgt. Rock'. Throughout the 1980s, she has worked on various other DC publications, most notably 'Advanced Dungeons and Dragons', 'Arion, Lord of Atlantis' and 'The Warlord'. She addtitionally drew the 'Elric: The Vanishing Tower' mini-series for First Comics. By the 1990s, she worked on several Marvel series, such as 'The Incredible Hulk', 'Professor Xavier and the X-Men', 'X-Factor', 'X-Men 2099' and a couple of fill-ins.
Duursema did her first 'Star Wars' artwork for a Marvel issue in 1985. Since 2000 she has worked on several related titles for Dark Horse. She did the the comic adaptation of 'Star Wars Episode II', but also mini-series such as 'Star Wars Darth Maul', 'Star Wars Tales' and 'Star Wars: Jedi', as well as the ongoing series. She has worked with writer John Ostrander on 'Star Wars: Legacy' and 'Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi'. She is married to comic artist Tom Mandrake.
