Sylvain Escallon was born in Montpellier, where he also studied Graphic Arts. Among his graphic influences are Enki Bilal, Jacques Tardi, Didier Comès, Blutch and Nicolas De Crécy.
He gets his inspiration from comic artists like Bilal, Tardi, Comès, Clutch and De Crécy, and painters like Norman Rockwell and Frederic Remington. He made his debut in 2013 with the black-and-white book 'Les Zombies n'existent pas', his adaptation of the Emmanuel Dadoun novel 'Lazarus', at Sarbacane in 2013. It was followed by an adaptation of Joseph Incardona's '220 Volts' in 2015.
