Carlos María Federici is an Uruguayan comic artist and novelist. While mainly known as a pioneer of science fiction and detective stories in Uruguay, some of his comic creations are also considered classics. Born in Montevideo, he sold his first short story, 'El Secreto', to the magazine Mundo Uruguayo at age 19. He then made his comics debut in 1968 with the daily strip 'Barry Coal', about an African-American private investigator in New York City.

Over the years he found success as a writer of mainly crime and science fiction stories for publishers in Argentina, Mexico, Spain, Poland and Belgium. A recurring character in his novels is the detective 'Dorteros', who made his first appearance in Federici's debut novel 'La Orilla Roja' in 1972. Crime remained the main theme of his subsequent novels, but he has also ventured into horror with 'Dinkenstein'(1973). His literary work also appears in several anthologies from his country and abroad.

Besides writing novels, Federici still found time to write and draw his own comics for Uruguayan newspapers and children's magazines. His best-known creation is 'Jet Galvez', which was published during the 1980s. An anthology edition was published under the title 'Federici, Detective Intergaláctico' in 2013. The book was edited by Matías Castro, and digitally restored by Diego Jourdan. 'Jet Galvez' is still remembered fondly by a whole generation.
