José Ángel Fernández Fernández, who signed with Fer, was born in Mansilla, León, and published his early work in Mata Ratos and En Patufet. He then became a regular contributor to the daily Catalan newspaper Avui in the late 1980s and to Tribuna, before joining the editorial team of El Jueves. There, he drew his popular serials 'Puticlub', starring 'El Urelio', and 'Historias Fermosas'. He has also done a daily cartoon for La Prensa.
