Rafael Fornés was a Cuban artist, who edited papers like the humorous weekly El Pitirre. In 1936, he created his comic strip 'José Dolores', in which he portrayed Cuban life, for the Revista Rosa supplement of the daily Avance. The 'José Dolores' strip ran for three years, and was reprinted in Información, the magazine for which Fornés worked as a photo retoucher. For this same magazine, he created a new comic strip, 'Don Sabino', that ran from 1957 to 1963.
