British romance comic by Jordi Franch

Jordi Franch Cubells is a Spanish painter and comic artist. Born in La Palma d'Ebre, Tarragona, he has lived and worked in Alicante since 1950. He started out with several odd jobs, although always related to art, such as textile decoration, advertising and poster design. He enroled at the School of Fine Arts in 1955 and eventually found work as a comic artist in Barcelona.

He got a job at Editorial Toray, where he initially cooperated on their line of romance comic books. Back from his military service in 1958, he turned to agency work and began drawing for Fleetway in the UK through Josep Toutain's Selecciones Ilustradas agency. He later also worked on British newspaper strips through Bardon Art. Just like his teacher Jorge Longarón, he got the opportunity to work on newspaper comic strips like 'My Story' for the Chicago Tribune in the USA.

He returned to Alicante in 1964, where he took on painting and became a leading figure in the local art scene. He participated in several group exhibtions with Cercle Laguart. Jordi Franch died prematurely in 1980, at the age of only 44. His brother Rossend Franch was also a comic book artist and painter.
