Mary Lou Freel was born in Niagara Falls. She studied Music at the University of Toronto in 1964. She later got her Master of Library Science from McGill University and her BFA in Studio Art from Concordia University. She sells her mini-books as Plastic Press through Distriboto machines (former cigarette machines which no longer sell cigarettes but art), and makes regular appearances on the annual Expozine small press events in Montreal. Freel's work contains several artistic disciplines, from comics to written short stories and tapestry work.
