Frédéric Garcia started out illustrating a science fiction book of Pierre Gripari. His artwork was noticed by Rodolphe, who asked him to illustrate 'L'Homme au Bigos'. However, Garcia didn't complete the project and it was continued by Ferrandez. Garcia then left the comics field for a while, and took on a career as an illustrator. In the early 1980s he returned to comics, drawing comic adaptations of work by Poe and De Maupassant in Tintin, Djin and Turbule. In 1981 he founded a studio with Michel Rouge. Together, Garcia and Rouge did some work for Circus under the collective pseudonym Valentin Strigelius. In Charlie Mensuel, Garcia illustrated a series of articles by Rodolphe: 'Les Légendes de la Mer'. He also became an assistant to Morris and drew the first two episodes of the 'Cliff Burton' series (text by Rodolphe).
