Dave Gerard worked as a magazine cartoonist from the 1940s through the 1960s. Between 1953 and 1966, he drew the newspaper strip 'Will-Yum'. 'Will-Yum' was also featured in a Dell comic book. Gerard was also the creator of 'Citizen Smith', a cartoon character representing the average man and his struggle against life's routine frustrations, which appeared in The Indianapolis Star in the 1970s and 1980s. Dave Gerard additionally served his fellow citizens as the mayor of Crawfordsville, Indiana from 1972 to 1976.
