Vishwajyoti Ghosh is a cartoonist from South Delhi, and one of the few Indian graphic novelists. He grew up reading Indian comics like the 'Amar Chitra Katha' series, but also European series like 'Tintin' and 'Astérix'. He won a school competition for political cartoons, but eventually pursued a career in graphic design and filmmaking, while also painting T-shirts for Orijit Sen's People Tree outfit.
He returned to comics around 2000. He had a comics column called 'Backlog' in The Little Magazine, and made a single panel cartoon for the Hindustan Times called 'Full Toss'. He contributed the fictionalized real-life story called 'The Lost Ticket' to the anthology 'When Kulbhushan met Stockli' for Harper Collins India in 2009.
Delhi Calm
Ghosh's work shows great social commitment, such as his 2010 graphic novel 'Delhi calm', that dealt with the suspended basic civil rights during the constitutional "state of emergency" between 1975 and 1977. Ghosh is a member of the Pao collective, and his comics have also appeared in magazines like Tinkle and Platform Magazine and on communication material for humanitarian campaigns.
