After his studies in Fine Arts in Namur, Gérard Goffaux travelled through Central Asia. Upon his return in Belgium, he took courses at the Institut Saint-Luc in Brussels, where he graduated in plastic arts three years later. In 1982, he began his famous "detective noir" series 'Max Faccioni' in a style influenced by American comic artists like Joe Kubert. This series initially appeared in Le Journal Illustré, and later as a series of short stories in Spirou. In addition, Goffaux made 'Losers' in the Atomium collection of Magic Strip, and contributed to Ice Crim's.
In 1987, he was contacted by Roger Hanin to make the movie poster of 'La Rumba'. Soon after that, Goffaux left Spirou and started working in advertising (a.o. Grundig, Renault). In 1989, he restarted his series 'Max Faccioni' in albums published by Editions Lombard and Points Image. In 1994, he was present in the review Brazil with 'Post Mortem', a short 'Max Faccioni' story. In 2003, he made a comic adaptation of Serge Brussolo's novel 'La Fille de la Nuit' for the collection Haute Tension of Albin Michel.
