Dirk-Jan Hoek is a Dutch comic artist and illustrator, born in Katwijk. He made his comics debut with the short story 'Norwegian Wood', that was published on the website of magazine Zone 5300. He is co-owner of the Amsterdam-based online design agency Laika, and an editor with the satirical news website De Speld.
An avid traveler and bird-lover, he got the idea for his first graphic novel while cycling through China. 'Mao's Mussen' deals with Mao's command to kill all sparrows in China, and was published by Oog & Blik in 2013.
