Wim den Hollander was born in Oostkapelle, The Netherlands in 1918. He drew the text strip 'Dobber en Kliekje' for newspaper De Zeeuwsche Courant in 1948. The second adventure in the series, 'Dobber en Kliekje in de sleepvaart', was directly published in album form, as part of a reading book series for elementary school children. It probably was the first comic to be published for use in schools. When it came out that Wim den Hollander was not a Catholic, which the publisher was, the cooperation was ended in 1950. The book itself had nine reprints until 1965. Wim den Hollander published another text strip, 'Strik en Stropdas', using the pseudonym Jimmy Spake. It was published in magazine Taptoe from October 1954 until September 1955.
