Carlos Ángel Díaz Huertas was one main artists for the illustrated Blanco y Negro magazine, one of the biggest magazines that contained comics at the time. Huertas studied at the School for Fine Arts in Madrid. His first work was for La Ilustración Española y Americana and La Esfera. He drew the cover of the first issue of Blanco y Negro of 10 May 1891. He stayed with the magazine until 1935. Besides being an illustrator, Huertas was a painter and his paintings earned him several medals at the National Exhibition of Fine Arts.
