Fikom by Fernando Ikoma

Fernando Ikoma is a Brazilian painter, writer and comic artist, born in Martinópolis, São Paulo. A self-taught artist, he began his career by drawing for advertising agencies at the age of 15. He was one of the regular artists for EDREL, the publishing company founded by Minami Keizi, in 1968. Although of Japanese descent like most of his EDREL colleagues, Ikoma did not get his inspiration from Japanese manga like his colleagues.

Ikoma contributed to EDREL titles like Estórias Adultas, A Espiã de Vênus, Estórias Avançadas, Fikom, O Paquera, Playcomic, Young Comic, Revista de Terror, Terror Especial and Tip Top, and created characters like 'Sibele a Espiã de Vênus', 'Fikom', 'Play-Boy', 'Satã a Alma Penada', 'O Paquera', 'Zé Experimentadinha' and 'Maria Esperançosa' during the 1960s and 1970s.

After leaving EDREL, he became a scriptwriter for O Judoka magazine by EBAL publishers, and for stories starring Hanna-Barbera characters in Heróis da TV by Editora Abril. He is the author of the comic art guidebook 'A técnica universal das histórias em quadrinhos', published in 1972. He spent several years working in advertising, before returning to comics in 2011 with webcomics like 'Mary*QI. A Garota Cibernética'.
