Mia Ikumi first came to public attention after winning the 1997 Nakayoshi Shinjin manga contest with her story 'The Sleeping Beauty of Strawberry Forest'. She started out publishing in the magazine Lunlun. Among her serials are 'Super-Doll Rika-Chan', 'Bunnies Dropping Stars' and 'Tokyo Mew Mew', which she makes with Reiko Yoshida.
In 2022 Ikumi died from a subarachnoid hemorrhage. Three weeks later she would've turned 43.
