Joacy Jamys was one of the most productive Brazilian cartoonists of his generation. Born in Rio de Janeiro, he lived in São Luís do Maranhão for most of his professional life. He had been contributing to fanzines and magazines since the age of 14, in 1986. Among the many (inter)national publications he contributed to are Femea Feroz, Barata Especial, Top! Top!, Mandala, Ervilha, Nektar, Legenda, Deus, Psiu Mudo, Psiu Ecologia, Au!, Plutonium (Poland), Tmeo (Spain), Magazine BD, Classe Média, Dossier Top Secret (Portugal), Crudeza (Peru), HC Roar (Czech Republic) and Atomik (France).

Professionally a (web) designer and graphic artist, Jamys was editor of fanzines like Legenda, Legenda Comix, Nao Sistema!, Grito Punk, Grito?, Liberdade em Preto e Branco and others, through which he divulged the work of local comic artists. He was founder member of Singularplural Quadrinhos, with whom he published Singularplural, Fusão and Fúria. In addition, he was instructor of comics courses and promoter of comics events, as well as vocalist in the punk band Última Marcha. Suffering from a stroke on 4 December 2006, he passed away the following day, at the young age of 35.
