Yoshirou Kato was a Japanese multimedia artist, best known for his work as a cartoonist and for Japanese television. After having worked in an hospital since the age of 13, he published his first illustrations in Asahi Graph in 1939 and began working for various newspapers. In 1943, he attended the Art Academy of Kawabata, but then he was sent to fight with the Japanese army at the Chinese front. After the War, he participated with Manga magazine and Manga Shûdan.

He did his first comic strip work in 1951. In 1954, he created his well-known series 'Mappirakun', published in the daily Mainichi. In the following years, he launched several new series, such as 'Onboro Jinsei' (1954), 'Ore wa Obake dazo' (1959), 'Ojisoma Daimiyô' (1959), 'Geijigeji Tarô Gyôkôki' (1961), 'Motemote Ojisan' (1963), 'Sebiki no Ninja' (1964) and 'Benben Monogatari' (1965). In addition, he worked for Japanese television.
