Jean-François Kieffer was born in Alsace, but spent most of his childhood in Paris. As an adolescent, he returned to Alsace, where he went to study Arts Deco and where he began his illustration atelier with Claude Lapointe. In 1979, he graduated, got married, and had his first publications in Astrapi, Pomme d'Api and Louveteau. Kieffer specialized in the religious domain. He has made a comics version of the gospel together with Christine Ponsard. He has also created the medieval comic series 'Les Aventures de Loupio', which is published by Fleurus-Edifa.
