Masashi Kishimoto is the author of the popular manga serial 'Naruto'. He began his career as a mangaka in 1996 with 'Karakuri' in Shueisha. 'Naruto' debuted as a one shot in Shônen Jump Summer in 1997, after which Kishimoto returned to a short-lived serialized version of 'Karakuri' in the following year. This proved unsuccessful and the'Naruto' serial began publication in Shônen Jump in 1999. The ongoing series was a big hit and was also turned into an anime series. English publications are issued by Viz Media in the USA, selling of 93 million copies worldwide. Kishimoto has additionally done designs for video games and films, as well as a one-shot baseball manga called 'Bech' in 2010. His twin brother Seishi Kishimoto is the author of the manga '666 Satan'.
