Lucy Louise Knisley is an American illustrator, comic artist and author, as well as a puppeteer, ukulele player and food/travel writer. She is a graduate of The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she went to study painting, and ended up making comics. She then studied at the Center for Cartoon Studies, where she received a scholarship to pursue her MFA, which she completed in June 2009.
She lives and works in New York, where she makes comics, does freelance illustration, and teaches occasional comics workshops. She has self-published mini-comics since 2005. Her first published book, 'French Milk' (Simon & Schuster, 2008), is a drawn journal about living (and eating) in Paris with her mother. Her second book, 'Relish: My Life in the Kitchen' (First Second Books, 2013), deals with growing up in the food industry.
