Bernhard Kolle was born in Pozega, Croatia, and now lives and works in Lubljana, Slovenia. He grew up reading Western European comics through the Yugoslav comics magazine Stripoteka. He began his career drawing horror comics for the American market. Between 1988 and 1996 he was an artist for the comic books 'Conny' and 'Gespenster Geschichten' by Bastei Verlag in Germany. From 1996 to 1999 he was inking horror stories for Dark Horse titles like 'Ghost' and 'The Mask' in the USA. He then returned to Bastei and Gespenster Geschichten to draw the features 'Maddrax' and 'Vampira'.

He teamed up with the French writers Jean-Claude and Agnès Bartoll to create the series 'Diamants', that was published by Glénat from 2007 to 2012. Köllé and Jean-Claude Bartoll continued their collaboration with 'Antarctica' in 2014.
