Born in Peking into a Walloon-Dutch family, Edgar Ley studied fine arts in Brussels, Belgium. He began his artistic career as a press illustrator. In 1949, he was present in the Flemish magazine Kleine Zondagsvriend with the historical comics stories 'Dirk, De Held van Brugge' and 'Carausius, De Vlaamse Cesar'.

Afterwards, Ley started working for French-language magazines, such as Week-End and Le Soir. In Le Soir, he drew a variety of serialized historical comics, such as 'Cléopatre', 'Jules César', 'Borgia' and 'Jeanne de Flandre'. His most notable comic is the 18th-century adventure series 'Frank' (1951-1952), published in Le Peuple. Edgar Ley left the comics field in the late 1950s.
