Adonis by Rafael Lillo

Rafael Lillo is one of the pioneers in Mexican comics. He was educated at the Academy of Fine Arts in San Carlos, and began his career as a painter. On 5 July 1908 he published the first installment of 'Las Aventuras de Adonis' in El Mundo Ilustrado. The comic about a grumpy bulldog and his wealthy chubby owner, was one of the first Mexican comics to use speech balloons. Later in its run, it was retitled to 'Las Desventuras de Adonis' ('The Misadventures of Adonis').
