Eddy Merckx by Christian Lippens
Les fabuleux exploits d'Eddy Merckx

Christian Lippens was the longtime assistant of comic book artist Jean Graton. He drew the backgrounds of the 'Michel Vaillant' and 'Julie Wood' comics during the 1970s and 1980s. He also made a comic book about cyclist Eddy Merckx, 'Les Fabuleux Exploits d'Eddy Merckx' (1973) with Yves Duval for Arts & Voyages Gamma. The book is a mixture between a celebrity comic and a biographical overview of Merckx' career up to that point. It starts off with him winning his first amateur championship in 1964 and concludes with him winning the 1972 world hour record in Mexico.. By now in his 90s, Lippens lives in a castle in the Périgord area of France.
