The Eagle, by Carl Lyon

Carl Lyon was born in New South Wales, Australia in 1903. He studied art and became a theatrical scenery painter before moving to Queensland in 1929. There he worked as a cane-cutter. In 1931 he moved back to Sydney and started his career as a freelance artist. His work appeared in magazines such as Smith's Weekly, The Bulletin and Humour. His comic strip 'Tootles' appeared in Humour in 1936, as the first comic ever published in this magazine.

Lyon did also several realistic adventure comics for Frank Johnson Publications. His work includes titles such as 'K-27', 'Detective Milt Grey', 'Barty Malone - Taxi Driver', 'The Phantom Trooper', 'PD 4967', 'The Astounding Mr. Storm', and 'The Eagle'. He took up humorous comics again in 1957, when he teamed up with Stan Cross on 'Wally and the Major', which he continued after Cross' retirement in 1970.
