Jean Mad (also written as Jean-Mad) was a longtime political artist and humorist for magazines like Le Rire (1915-1939), Le Matin (1921), Aux Ecoutes (1926-1950), L'Avant-Garde (1944) and La France au Combat (1945). He started working for the women's magazine Femmes Françaises in 1946.

Mad made comic strip adaptations of famous novels such as 'La Case de l'Oncle Tom', 'Croc-Blanc', 'Don Quichotte', 'La Reine Margot' and 'Le Roman de Renart', as well as the children's series 'Les Aventures de Pouf et Miette'. The latter also ran in Les Marianne du Nord. In 1947, he made a series of comic books starring 'L'Inspecteur Douglas' for Éditions J. Froissard.
